Curse you RPG Circus! Putting

Curse you RPG Circus!
Putting me on to more cool RPG's that I will have to buy! ; )

As to Mini's in games,I started playing pnp games at the ripe old age of 40 and it was Dungeons and Dragons 3.5,the DM supplied the Mini's and it was "sort of" tactical in the sense that you had a rough idea where your characters were ,it was good for a newbie like me to visualise what was occurring in game.

That first group folded and the DM that ran the group (3.5) that I started and hosted a while later turned up at our first meeting with this big laminated battle mat and I thought "hello-whats this?" His style of game was to use the grid and Mini's for pretty much all of the game.

When that group finished I started a fourth edition dungeons and Dragons group that's been going for about a hear and a half-again battle maps and Mini's aplenty.I'm familiar and comfortable using Mini's however I've played games like Call of Cthulhu where its all story telling and atmosphere (mostly) so I see there are other ways to play.

Call of Cthulhu is an interesting one on the subject of constant violence in RPG's,the guy who ran the CoC games was our DM at the time and knew our kill and loot mentality,he said to forget the play style we usually adopt,if you see something not of this world-run or die.we played about 4 sessions and had a blast,we got shot up,went mad and were eaten with not a Mini in sight.
